The two-year Blue Ridge CTC’s associate degree program in Healthcare Professions is designed for students who need to begin exploring medical and healthcare knowledge. Students may select the healthcare professions program when they are preparing to transfer to an advanced training program, such as radiology. Students who are planning to pursue Nursing, Medical Assisting, or Paramedicine should enroll in the respective BRCTC degree programs.
Students who plan to apply to the Blue Ridge CTC Nursing Program enroll in the Medical Assisting: Nursing Foundations degree program. The Healthcare Professions program is only used for pre-nursing if you have already earned a Medical Assisting degree.

With the Healthcare Professions Associate degree, students learn to:

  • Demonstrate appropriate verbal, non-verbal, therapeutic, professional, and technological communication skills in their practice
  • Facilitate collaboration among all health care team members and the patients in their care
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using sound clinical decision making to plan safe and effective client care
  • Perform an informed discussion about the moral, ethical, and legal aspects of the healthcare profession.
Admission requirements for Blue Ridge CTC’s associate degree in Healthcare Professions include a high school diploma or equivalent and a complete application packet. Students who have earned credits at other Colleges or Universities must also provide official copies of those transcripts. There is also a $25 application fee that can be paid at any time after submitting the application.
With an associate degree in Healthcare professions, students learn workforce-ready skills required for early entry or career advancement in areas of administration, research, and social services. This program is designed to provide broad knowledge across the healthcare industry. Students who are pursuing Medical Assisting should enroll in the Medical Assisting: Medical Assisting Foundation degree. Students who are pursuing pre-nursing should enroll in the Medical Assisting: Nursing Foundations degree. Students who are pursuing paramedicine should enroll in the Emergency Medical Services degree.
